        the fourth movement is based on a previously written song (voice and piano) by Schubert who set a poem (by a poet named Schubart, funnily enough) called Die Forelle (The Trout) to music. it’s about a trout swimming happily in the brook until he’s caught by a fisherman

        i have a feeling you’ll prefer the string quartet version, but here’s a lovely recording by Elly Ameling (it’s over by the 2:05 mark)

      • thanks LaDona; much appreciated. so basically it’s a Schub* family collaboration then ?! ; ) and you’re right, the string version is more my style. it is nice to be able to put the pieces together …
